Clothing discount store KiK to follow LIDL and ALDI into U.S.

German company Tengelmann, announced today that it plans to open discount clothing stores under its Kik brand in the U.S. by 2019. The announcement, which was part of the company's 150 year celebrations, comes amid a trend of other German retailers pushing into the U.S. market.

Tengelmann is no stranger to North America. The company operated the grocery chain 'Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. (A&P)' from the 1970s until about 2010, when the recession forced Tengelmann to exit the venture.

German grocery store LIDL opened its first stores in the U.S. in June 2017 and ALDI, which operates in the U.S. for many years, plans to invest more than $3bn into 2,500 new stores in the next five years.
